With the increasing use of voice and shared access over ADSL, the X-Family has the ability to create multiple secure zones for different user requirements within a business or a home environment. For example, it’s possible to set up a VPN tunnel to the corporate head office accessible only to authorised users, with prioritised voice traffic to ensure quality of service.
In addition, when used in conjunction with 3Com enterprise switches, the X-Family has the ability to inspect all traffic and quarantine users that perform an unwanted activity, such as file-sharing application, or has a virus on their PC.

3Com X5 Unified Security Platform
Two models of the X5 are available, one for organisations with up to 25 users and another with the ability to serve an unlimited amount of users. Both come complete with six 10/100 ethernet ports, integrated Intrusion Prevention, firewall and IPSec VPN, content filtering, traffic shaping, dynamic and multicast routing.
3Com X506 Unified Security Platform
Complete in a rack-mount form factor the X506 includes six 10/100 Ethernet ports, integrated IPS, high-performance firewall, IPSec VPN, content filtering, traffic shaping, dynamic and multicast routing, as well as support for unlimited users.
Both the X5 and X506 offer an excellent mid-size solution for organisations looking for comprehensive network protection at their branch or regional locations, along with multi-zone functionality allowing for granular segmentation for better control over security policies and network traffic.
