Innovative architecture

Resilient Layer-3 routing, hot swap modules, redundant power and redundant load-sharing switch fabrics make the Switch 8800 perfect for mission-critical environments, while three different chassis models, featuring 7, ten and fourteen slots enable flexible and scalable deployment.

With a future-proof backplane and a fully distributed architecture, the switch is scalable up to 1.44 Terabits per second, and adapts seamlessly with new technology to guarantee maximum long-term investment protection.

The modular-based design has been built to allow for incredible flexibility. While the chassis itself is simple to plug in and start operating, system components can be added, upgraded or removed with ease and there’s a choice of technologies and media types to fit all requirements.

With onboard local Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, larger organisations can be assured of increased performance and reduced latency, ensuring enhanced application performance and guaranteeing the quality of service of voice and video traffic.  

Monitoring and protecting the network

Four new application-specific modules are designed to increase security and enhance network management:

Network Monitoring Module – provides NetFlow data export to analyse network traffic and applications, monitor network usage and gauge how it’s performing. Understanding current usage and long-term trends is critical to rolling out a voice over IP (VoIP) network.

Firewall Module – offers superior protection, allowing you to defend the network against external and internal threats, eliminating the need for stand-alone firewall appliances in the core.

IPsec Module – encrypts and secures data, and delivers high-performance IPsec encryption of DES, 3DES and AES at a maximum encryption rate of 256-bits.

Virtual Private LAN Service Module – extends Layer 2 LANs across MPLS networks to give multi-point to multi-point Layer 2 VPN connectivity, ideal for large enterprises with fibre linking to sites.
